Come Into The Kitchen
Joe and Myrna Sokolinsky - Lyrics
I’M NOT PERFECT
How empty my wallet
How flat are my feet
How wide is my waist line
Where zippers do not meet.
How dim is my vision
How frizzy is my hair
I can’t find my hairbrush
It was lost somewhere.
CHORUS:
But despite these failings, happy folks are we
Birds of a feather, they are you and me.
How clumsy my dancing
How tuneless my song
I could serenade you
But it would be all wrong.
I say all the wrong things
That embarrass us
My grammar and spelling
Are preposterous.
CHORUS
I don’t ask directions
I always get lost
I’m shy, unassertive
I’m easily bossed.
How naive my taste is
How messy is my home
How foolish my writing
How silly is this poem.
CHORUS
I’LL SING YOU A POEM
I’ll sing you a poem poetically
Words that are simple and few
Words that are splendid aesthetically
Words that say that I love you.
BRIDGE:
Ill sing in iambic pentameter slow
I’ll sing in trochaic tetrameter low
A poem to be sung sempre fortissimo
Words lyric, dramatic
With measures chromatic
In triplets, quatrains
And tuneful refrains
A poem I’ll sing of unhappiness
Wondering how it will end
Will you turn sorrow to joyfulness?
Will you be my special friend?
BRIDGE
I’ll sing you a poem poetically
Words that are simple and few
Words that are splendid aesthetically
Words that say I love you.
LOVE, MATHEMATICALLY
A day that is splendid
The sun up above
What’s missing is someone
Somebody to love
I see clouds are drifting
Across a blue sky
Another to see it
Makes joy multiply.
CHORUS:
Add one to one, it’s equation quadratic
It doubles the fun, it’s mathematic.
The leaves when it’s autumn
The flowers in spring
Please find me a soul mate
To share everything
A flickering candle
That lights up the dark
Oh, someone to go
For a walk in the park.
CHORUS
When maple leaves fall
And make streets paved with gold
We’re all bundled up
We’re not frightened by cold
The failures, the triumphs
The laughter and tears
Someone to look back
And remember the years.
CHORUS
COME INTO THE KITCHEN
One pound of solitude
Two cups of memories
Three spoons of quiet tears
Put in a saucepan all the heartache and the pain
Add all the memories of sorrows that remain
Cook for thirty minutes till you understand
That this would not be the life that you had planned
CHORUS:
Forget your problems
Come into the kitchen
Come into the kitchen
Come into the kitchen
One slice of thoughtfulness
Two cups of honesty
Three drops of openness
Put in a saucepan all the fears you never shared
Add all the words of sorrow showing that you cared
Cook for thirty minutes till you understand
All the fears and sorrows since your life began
CHORUS
One ounce of happiness
Two cups of gratitude
Three spoons of joyfulness
Put in a saucepan with a half a cup of love
Sprinkle with warm affection from your smile above
Cook for thirty minutes till you understand
That this is the life you wanted and had planned
CHORUS
FANFARE FOR THE MORNING SUN
TRUMPET
Flower trumpets, blow a happy tune
Blow a fanfare, come and greet the sun
We’ll have breakfast, tea and crumpets soon
Blow a fanfare, come and greet the sun
BRIDGE:
Trumpets, blow your fanfare loud and clear
Golden sunlight will soon appear
Giving all of us joy and cheer.
The sun looked over snowy mountain rim
Blow a fanfare, come and greet the sun
Through my window, merrily looked in
Blow a fanfare, come and greet the sun
BRIDGE
The sun climbed higher higher in the sky
Blow a fanfare, come and greet the sun
Shining bright, the sun is never shy
Blow a fanfare, come and greet the sun
Blow a fanfare, come and greet the sun
Blow a fanfare…
TRUMPET
